Door haar dochter te fotograferen in iconische outfits van inspirerende vrouwen wil de Amerikaanse Jenelle Wexler een hulde brengen aan de realisaties van de meest machtige vrouwen ter wereld.

Van Cleopatra over Moeder Teresa tot Koningin Elizabeth II. Met behulp van haar vier maanden oude dochtertje Liberty wil de Amerikaanse Jenelle Wexler de schijnwerper richten op vrouwen die ons respect binnen onze maatschappij echt verdienen. “Er zijn zoveel krachtige vrouwen die gevierd moeten worden en wiens verhaal gedeeld moet worden”, vertelde Jenelle Wexler aan het tijdschrift People.

Opvallende gelijkenissen met Frida

“Het is allemaal begonnen toen ik het idee kreeg om mijn dochtertje Liberty als Frida Kahlo te verkleden. Ik vond dat er opvallende gelijkenissen waren tussen de Mexicaanse kunstenares en Liberty”, legt Jenelle uit aan het blad Metro. “De foto’s waren zo mooi en niet veel later begon ik na te denken over andere vrouwen uit de geschiedenis die het leven van vrouwen en mensen over het algemeen beter hebben gemaakt.”

Enorme impact op vrouwen vandaag

De mama van het meisje hoopt dat dankzij dit project haar dochter en tweejarige zoon de impact die deze vrouwen hadden op de wereld leren appreciëren. “Ik verkleed Liberty als de meest geweldige vrouwen uit de geschiedenis. Ze waren dapper, sterk, amusant, oprecht en liefdevol. Ze hebben een enorme impact op het leven van vrouwen vandaag.”

Influential Woman Pt 20: Sacajawea: a Lemhi Shoshone woman who is known for her help to the Lewis and Clark Expedition in achieving their chartered mission objectives by exploring the Louisiana Territory. Sacagawea traveled with the expedition thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean. She helped establish cultural contacts with Native American populations in addition to her contributions to natural history. In February 1805, Sacagawea gave birth to a son named Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. Despite traveling with a newborn child during the trek, Sacagawea proved to be helpful in many ways. She was skilled at finding edible plants. When a boat she was riding on capsized, she was able to save some of its cargo, including important documents and supplies.
